Instagram User Tagging

Tag @usernames on your Instagram feed posts and carousels directly from the posterly composer.

Tag other Instagram accounts in your posts so they get notified and your content appears on their tagged photos. posterly lets you add user tags right from the composer — no need to edit the post after publishing.

Tagging users

  1. Open the composer and select your Instagram account
  2. Click the @ icon in the caption toolbar to open the Tag Users popover
  3. Enter usernames separated by commas — without the @ symbol (e.g. johndoe, janedoe, acmebrand)
  4. The preview panel will show the tagged users beneath the post actions

Tags are applied automatically when your post publishes via the Instagram Graph API.

Instagram's API only supports user tags on feed image posts and carousels. Reels and stories do not support the user_tags parameter.

Tips

  • No @ symbol needed — just enter the username. posterly strips the @ automatically if you include it.
  • Usernames must be valid — if a username doesn't exist on Instagram, the post may still publish but the tag will be silently ignored.
  • Tag position — tags are placed along the bottom of the image. Instagram allows users to view tagged accounts by tapping on the post.
  • No extra permissions — tagging works with your existing Instagram connection. No reconnection needed.
