Manage Instagram DMs and comments from one place, with saved replies and automation.
The Social Inbox lets you read, reply to, and manage engagement across your connected Instagram accounts without leaving posterly. Requires Pro plan or above.
Accessing the Inbox
Go to Inbox to see all DMs and comments on your connected Instagram accounts.

Selecting an account
If you have multiple Instagram accounts connected, use the dropdown picker at the top to switch between them. The picker is searchable, shows a platform icon per account, and deduplicates accounts connected via multiple methods (direct Instagram OAuth vs Meta Pages).
Syncing
The inbox auto-polls every 60 seconds while the page is open, pulling the latest DMs and comments. You can also click Sync manually to refresh.
First sync pulls the 20 most recent DM conversations and comments from your 25 most recent posts.
Replying
To a DM
- Click any conversation in the DM tab
- Type your reply and hit send
- 24-hour window — Instagram only allows business accounts to reply to DMs within 24 hours of the last customer message. After that, the reply box is disabled.
To a comment
- Click any comment in the Comments tab
- Choose Public reply (visible under the post) or Private DM (sends a DM to the commenter)
- Use Saved Replies to insert a template, or AI Suggest to generate options
Saved replies
Create templates in Automation > Saved Replies. Give each a name, content, and optional category. Click the Saved button in any reply composer to insert them.
Automation
Click the Automation button in the inbox header to open the Automation panel. Four tabs:
Rules
Create rules that trigger when new messages or comments arrive.
Triggers:
- Keyword — match specific words (contains, exact, starts with, or regex)
- AI intent — let AI classify messages against a description you provide
- All messages / All comments — fire on everything
Actions:
- Auto-reply with a template
- AI reply using your brand voice
- Flag for manual review
- Hide the comment on Instagram
- Private DM the commenter
- Notify yourself
Blocked Words
Add words or phrases that should trigger automatic moderation. Each blocked word has an action: hide, flag, delete, or notify. Supports regex patterns.
Saved Replies
Manage your reply templates. Create, edit, delete.
Activity Log
See every automation that's fired, what matched, and what actions were taken.
Subscription
Social Inbox is available on Pro plans and above. Starter users see an upgrade prompt on the inbox page.
Platform limitations
- Instagram only — Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Google Business Profile inboxes are on the roadmap
- Advanced access required for non-test users — Meta's
instagram_business_manage_messagesandinstagram_business_manage_commentsscopes require app review approval. Without it, DMs and comment replies only work for test users in your Meta App dashboard. - No real-time push — Current polling is every 60 seconds while the page is open. Meta webhooks for real-time delivery are on the roadmap.
- Can't like comments — Instagram's API doesn't support liking comments via API, only reading the like count.
