Buffer Alternatives 2026: 9 Tools Compared on Real All-In Cost
Compare nine Buffer alternatives on all-in monthly cost at 5 and 10 accounts. Flat plans, per-channel maths, optional MCP, and an honest posterly slot. Prices dated Sep 2026.
Prefer posterly in Google Search?
Searching for a Buffer alternative in 2026 usually means one of four things: the per-channel bill got painful, you need more platforms than your current queue covers, you want an agent-friendly MCP or API path, or your team outgrew a one-seat Essentials plan. This listicle compares nine options on real all-in cost at five and ten connected accounts, not teaser "from $X" headlines.
We include posterly honestly as one flat-price option with optional MCP. It is not crowned fake number one. Where Schedulin or Schedchie undercut on headline, we say so. Where Hootsuite-class listening still wins, we say that too.
Pricing dates: Buffer figures below follow public Buffer pricing and FAQ research on 30 September 2026 (Buffer last updated plan prices in November 2025 per its FAQ). Peer scheduler figures (Schedulin, PostEverywhere, Publer, Metricool, SocialBee, Schedchie, Posthive, SocialMate, posterly) use the cheapest social media scheduler 2026 snapshot of 15 September 2026. Always re-check vendor pages before you buy.
Who this is for
This guide is for freelancers, creators, and small teams who already use Buffer (or nearly bought it) and want a clearer bill at roughly five to ten profiles. It is not an enterprise listening bake-off.
An "alternative" here means a tool that can replace Buffer for scheduling and publishing, with a different price model, platform set, agent story, or team workflow. If you need deep social listening and large inbox routing, keep Hootsuite or an enterprise suite on the shortlist and treat the cheap schedulers as a different job.

Why people leave Buffer (honest pains)
Buffer remains a strong, simple product. People leave for maths and fit, not because the queue is broken.
- Per-channel multiplication. Essentials is priced per channel. On monthly billing for the 1 to 10 band, public write-ups and Buffer's own volume model commonly land at $6 per channel. On annual billing the same band is often cited at $5 per channel (Buffer's pricing page shows Essentials at $5/month when billed yearly for one channel). Team is commonly $12 monthly / $10 annual per channel in that band. Volume discounts kick in above 10 channels ($4 / $3 / $1 style bands on Essentials monthly; verify live). Worked monthly Essentials: 5 channels ≈ $30, 10 ≈ $60. Team: 5 ≈ $60, 10 ≈ $120. Annual Essentials: 5 ≈ $25, 10 ≈ $50. Do not treat older "$6 / $12" copy as if those were the annual rates.
- Free plan caps. Free still exists: up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel. Fine for a test. Awkward for daily posting across a real roster.
- Team seat jump. Approvals and unlimited users sit on Team, which doubles the per-channel rate versus Essentials in the common public bands.
- Agent / MCP clarity. Buffer lists Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor on feature tables and API keys on plans. Peers still treat a dedicated MCP server story as uneven. If your buying criterion is "cheap tool that already includes MCP," Schedulin and PostEverywhere are clearer line items today.
- Platform fit. Buffer's live channel list is broader than older round-ups claimed (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile, Substack, and more appear on Buffer's own pricing page). Still confirm every network you need (and any Start Page counting as a channel) before you assume parity with an 18-platform flat plan.
None of that makes Buffer "bad." It makes the bill grow linearly until volume bands help, which is exactly when flat plans look attractive.

Nine Buffer alternatives compared
Peer prices below are the 15 September 2026 cheapest-guide snapshot unless noted. Re-check before you buy.
1. Schedulin (cheapest MCP-included entry)
| Price snapshot | Starter $5 (3 accounts, MCP included); Creator $10 (12 accounts); Pro $20 unlimited. MCP included on all plans. |
| Best for | Buyers whose first filter is "MCP included from five dollars." |
| Trade-off | Competes on price and agents more than on matching every niche network. Confirm platforms you need. |
| Link | Vendor pricing (verify live); compare all-in rows in the cheapest guide. |
2. Schedchie (flat euro unlimited)
| Price snapshot | Pro €7.99/mo unlimited accounts. MCP at mcp.schedchie.com. X add-on often €4.99 / 30 posts. No permanent free tier; trial commonly 14 days. |
| Best for | EU buyers who want one flat bill and do not need in-product AI. |
| Trade-off | Currency, X add-on maths, and a leaner feature story than Buffer's analytics/community suite. |
| Link | Vendor site; cited in the cheapest guide. |
3. posterly (flat USD, 18 platforms, optional MCP)
| Price snapshot | Starter $7 / 5 accounts; Pro $15 / 12; Power $25 / 30; Agency $49 / 100. MCP add-on +$3 Starter/Pro, +$5 Power, +$29 Agency. All-in: $10 at 5+MCP; $18 at 10+MCP. 7-day trial. No Autopilot. |
| Best for | Teams that want a predictable flat bill, broad platform coverage (18), and agents as an optional add-on rather than a forced suite. |
| Trade-off | Not always the rock-bottom headline (Schedulin/Schedchie/SocialMate can undercut). MCP is not included on base plans. Does not replace Hootsuite-style listening. |
| Link | posterly pricing, MCP, Buffer vs posterly. |
4. SocialMate (ultra-cheap if your networks are live)
| Price snapshot | Pro $8/mo (same band at 5 or 10 in the snapshot). Free tier exists with post and schedule-window caps. |
| Best for | Price-first buyers whose live networks already match SocialMate. |
| Trade-off | Platform gaps matter: Instagram / Facebook / Threads were still on the roadmap in the 15 Sep 2026 snapshot. Do not buy "cheapest" if Meta is your core. |
| Link | Vendor pricing; caveat rows in the cheapest guide. |
5. Posthive (simple creator tier)
| Price snapshot | Creator $9 (5 accounts, 400 posts/mo); Pro $29 (15 accounts). MCP from Pro+ (not Creator). |
| Best for | Creators who stay under the Creator post cap and do not need MCP yet. |
| Trade-off | Post caps and MCP gated to Pro+. Model volume before you celebrate $9. |
| Link | Vendor pricing; cheapest guide. |
6. PostEverywhere (MCP included, fewer platforms)
| Price snapshot | Lite $9 / Starter $19 / Growth $29 / Scale $39. MCP included. About 11 platforms. |
| Best for | Teams that want MCP on every plan and can live with a shorter platform list. |
| Trade-off | At five and ten accounts, posterly + MCP ($10 / $18) is usually cheaper all-in than PostEverywhere Starter/Growth in the snapshot, while PostEverywhere avoids an add-on line. |
| Link | Vendor pricing; PostEverywhere vs posterly. |
7. Publer (visual planner + calculator quirks)
| Price snapshot | Professional often lands near ~$20 at 5 and ~$36 at 10 (per-account calculator; every 10th account free in common write-ups). |
| Best for | Visual calendar buyers who like Publer's planner feel. |
| Trade-off | Per-account maths punish growth. MCP described as beta/limited in third-party notes; AI/API lean higher tiers. Verify on Publer. |
| Link | Vendor calculator; cheapest guide Publer section. |
8. Metricool (analytics + scheduling)
| Price snapshot | Starter $25 (up to 5) / $45 (up to 10). MCP via OAuth free (including Free in peer notes); REST API on Advanced. X often an add-on. |
| Best for | Buyers who want stronger analytics alongside scheduling. |
| Trade-off | Brand-ladder pricing and add-ons can erase the "Starter" headline. Free plan is tight (one brand; missing networks). |
| Link | Vendor; cheapest guide. |
9. SocialBee (category recycling)
| Price snapshot | Bootstrap $29 (5 profiles) / Accelerate $49 (10). |
| Best for | Teams organised around content categories and recycling. |
| Trade-off | Not the cheap MCP story. Higher than flat $7 to $18 posterly bands at the same account counts. |
| Link | Vendor; cheapest guide. |
Honourable mention: Hootsuite remains the listening / inbox / enterprise path (Standard often $99/user/mo billed annually). It is rarely a "cheaper Buffer alternative." See Hootsuite alternatives 2026 and Hootsuite vs posterly.

| posterly base | $7 | $15 (Pro covers 12) | Add-on |

| SocialBee | $29 | $49 | Not the cheap MCP path |
Deeper look: posterly as a Buffer alternative
posterly's pitch is not "always cheapest." It is honest all-in at five to ten accounts, 18 platforms, and an optional API & MCP add-on for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other clients.
- Scheduling only: $7 (5 accounts) or $15 (up to 12).
- With MCP: $10 or $18.
- Power $25 / 30 accounts and Agency $49 / 100 accounts when you outgrow Pro.
- No Autopilot. Agents schedule, upload media, and read analytics within plan limits. They do not set-and-forget every network for you.
If you only need three accounts with MCP included on day one, Schedulin Starter at $5 may win the spreadsheet. If you need Instagram tomorrow and SocialMate still lists Meta as roadmap, skip the $8 trap. If you need brand listening across the open web, posterly does not claim to replace that: stay on Hootsuite or similar.

How to switch without double-posting
- Drain or pause the Buffer queue. Let remaining posts publish, or pause them on purpose. Do not run two schedulers at the same slot.
- Reconnect with OAuth on the new tool, account by account. Expect Instagram and LinkedIn to ask for business or creator assets.
- Rebuild two weeks only. Prove timezone, first comment, media rules, and GBP (if you use it) before you migrate a quarter of content.
- Cancel or downgrade Buffer only after the new queue is healthy. Free Buffer can hold three channels as a safety net during overlap if you need it.
- Add MCP after paid access is live if you use posterly agents. Follow get started on MCP; do not treat the add-on as a substitute for a plan on trial daydreaming.
Same pattern works when the exit is Hootsuite or another suite: finish the old calendar, reconnect, then expand. Companion piece: Hootsuite alternatives 2026.
FAQ
Is Buffer still cheap at 10 channels? On monthly Essentials at $6/channel, ten channels are about $60/mo. Annual at $5/channel is about $50/mo. Team doubles that band. Flat plans at $7 to $18 often win the all-in spreadsheet for small teams.
Which Buffer alternative includes MCP cheapest? In the 15 Sep 2026 snapshot, Schedulin Starter at $5 (3 accounts) is the aggressive MCP-included entry. PostEverywhere includes MCP from $9 but costs more at five/ten accounts. posterly is $10 / $18 all-in with the +$3 add-on.
Does posterly replace Buffer Team approvals? posterly has client approval and workspace workflows on its plans (see product pages). It is not a clone of every Buffer Team permission. Trial the workflow you need. posterly does not offer Autopilot.
Should I move to Hootsuite instead? Only if you need listening, large shared inboxes, or enterprise governance. That is a different budget (from $99/user/mo annual Standard). See Hootsuite vs posterly.
