MCP connector
Dev.to MCP server
Cross-post Markdown articles to DEV Community with tags and a canonical URL from Claude or ChatGPT.
This is the posterly MCP server, used for Dev.to. The same connection works from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients. It is not a separate Dev.to-only download.
What you can do on Dev.to
Dev.to posts are articles in the DEV Community, so your AI client writes and publishes a full Markdown article, not a short update. The article needs a title, which comes from the title setting or from the first line of your caption, and the body has room for 100,000 characters.
The setting that matters most is the canonical URL. If the article first appeared on your own blog, set it and Dev.to points search engines back to your own blog as the original, which makes cross-posting safe for SEO. Tags are capped at 4 and must be lowercase letters and numbers. Your first attached image is the cover, and the rest are placed in the article body.
Articles go live at the scheduled time rather than saving as a draft, so read the preview before you confirm. Connect with an API key from your DEV Community settings. Video is not supported, and the MCP server does not read Dev.to analytics.

FAQ
What is the Dev.to MCP server?
It is the posterly MCP server, not a separate product. Connect it once and the same connection covers Dev.to and 17 other platforms, from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
How do I connect Dev.to?
Add the hosted server at https://www.poster.ly/api/mcp and sign in with posterly, or run npx -y posterly-mcp-server@latest in a client that can start a local process. Dev.to: Paste your credentials into the dashboard form. You can also give them to your AI client, but anything you type into a chat becomes part of that chat history.
How do I cross-post to Dev.to without hurting my SEO?
Set the canonical URL to the original article on your own site. Dev.to then tells search engines that your version is the original, so the cross-post does not compete with it.
Does a Dev.to article publish immediately or as a draft?
It publishes live at the scheduled time rather than saving as a draft, so review the preview before you confirm. Tags are capped at 4.
