MCP connector

WordPress MCP server

Publish posts to your self-hosted WordPress site from Claude or ChatGPT, with a featured image.

This is the posterly MCP server, used for WordPress. The same connection works from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients. It is not a separate WordPress-only download.

What you can do on WordPress

WordPress publishing works with any self-hosted site that has the REST API enabled, and it needs no plugin. You connect with your site URL, your username, and an application password generated in wp-admin under Users, Profile, Application Passwords.

Your AI client then publishes full posts with a title and a body that can hold 100,000 characters. Your first attached image is uploaded to your own site as the featured image, with its alt text, and extra images are added into the post body. If you do not set a title, the first line of the caption is used.

Posts publish live at the scheduled time, not as drafts, so it suits a content calendar you have already approved. Unlike Dev.to and Hashnode, there are no tag or cover settings here: the post lands on your own domain and your site controls categories and design. Video is not supported, and the MCP server does not read WordPress analytics.

How to connect

  1. Add the hosted server in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another MCP client. Server URL: https://www.poster.ly/api/mcp. Sign in with posterly OAuth and press Allow. Use the www host. In ChatGPT, write actions need a Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan.
  2. Or, in a client that can run a local process (Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, and similar), use npx -y posterly-mcp-server@latest with a POSTERLY_API_KEY placeholder in that client's MCP config.
  3. Call whoami and list_accounts so you know which workspace the client is using.
  4. Connect WordPress with the method below, then call list_platforms with view=schema and the account_id.

FAQ

What is the WordPress MCP server?

It is the posterly MCP server, not a separate product. Connect it once and the same connection covers WordPress and 17 other platforms, from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

How do I connect WordPress?

Add the hosted server at https://www.poster.ly/api/mcp and sign in with posterly, or run npx -y posterly-mcp-server@latest in a client that can start a local process. WordPress: Paste your credentials into the dashboard form. You can also give them to your AI client, but anything you type into a chat becomes part of that chat history.

Do I need a plugin to connect WordPress?

No. posterly signs in with an application password that you generate under Users, Profile, Application Passwords in wp-admin. The site needs to be self-hosted with the REST API enabled.

Does the post publish live or save as a draft?

It publishes live at the scheduled time. If you want a human check first, ask Claude to show the full post and wait for your confirmation before it schedules anything.
