MCP connector

Bluesky MCP server

Schedule Bluesky posts with images, alt text, and content labels from Claude or ChatGPT.

This is the posterly MCP server, used for Bluesky. The same connection works from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients. It is not a separate Bluesky-only download.

What you can do on Bluesky

Bluesky posts are short at 300 characters, and your AI client can publish text and up to 4 images with alt text on each. Links, @mentions, and #hashtags are made clickable for you, and a link can show a preview card. Alt text matters on Bluesky, so ask Claude to describe each image instead of leaving it blank.

There are Bluesky-specific controls too. Add a content label to hide a post behind a tap-to-reveal warning, quote another post by its URL, stop others from quoting yours, set language tags, and add up to 8 hidden discovery tags that stay out of the visible text.

Bluesky connects with your handle and an app password created in your Bluesky settings, not your main password, so there is no OAuth screen to click through. Because the limit is tight, it pays to let Claude tighten a longer draft before you schedule it, or adapt one announcement you are also sending to X or Threads. The MCP server does not read Bluesky analytics.

How to connect

  1. Add the hosted server in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another MCP client. Server URL: https://www.poster.ly/api/mcp. Sign in with posterly OAuth and press Allow. Use the www host. In ChatGPT, write actions need a Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan.
  2. Or, in a client that can run a local process (Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, and similar), use npx -y posterly-mcp-server@latest with a POSTERLY_API_KEY placeholder in that client's MCP config.
  3. Call whoami and list_accounts so you know which workspace the client is using.
  4. Connect Bluesky with the method below, then call list_platforms with view=schema and the account_id.

FAQ

What is the Bluesky MCP server?

It is the posterly MCP server, not a separate product. Connect it once and the same connection covers Bluesky and 17 other platforms, from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

How do I connect Bluesky?

Add the hosted server at https://www.poster.ly/api/mcp and sign in with posterly, or run npx -y posterly-mcp-server@latest in a client that can start a local process. Bluesky: Paste your credentials into the dashboard form. You can also give them to your AI client, but anything you type into a chat becomes part of that chat history.

How do I connect Bluesky to the MCP server?

Use your Bluesky handle and an app password, which you create in your Bluesky settings. It is separate from your main password. Enter them in the dashboard form once, then your AI client can post to that account.

Can Claude quote a Bluesky post or add a content warning?

Yes. Give it the post URL to quote, and ask for a content label to hide the post behind a tap-to-reveal warning. You can also stop others from quote-posting yours.
