Why Is My TikTok Not Getting Views?

A TikTok usually gets few views for one of two reasons: viewers did not react to it, or TikTok is not recommending it. TikTok's own explanation of its recommendations says videos are ranked using user interactions, video information and device and account settings, and that neither follower count nor previous high-performing videos are direct factors. That means a small account can get views on a single video, and a big account can get almost none.

TikTok does not publish exact thresholds, so no outside guide can tell you precisely why a given video stalled. This checklist covers what TikTok does document.

What TikTok says drives recommendations

In How TikTok recommends videos for you, TikTok lists three categories:

  • User interactions: actions such as liking or sharing videos, following accounts, commenting and creating content.
  • Video information: details such as captions, audio and tags.
  • Device and account settings: items like language, country and device type, which carry less weight.

It says the account's follower count and past performance are not direct factors. In practice, each video is judged by how viewers respond to it.

Checklist

1. Is the video eligible for the For You feed?

TikTok has For You feed eligibility standards. Summaries of its Community Guidelines say content that does not meet them can stay on your profile but is not recommended in the feed, and that unoriginal or reused material is one of the reasons, with examples such as material repurposed from another source without creative edits or videos carrying someone else's visible watermark. We could not load TikTok's integrity and authenticity policy or Creator Academy originality article directly, so read both for the exact wording.

TikTok also announced in April 2024 that an entire account can become temporarily ineligible for recommendation if a creator repeatedly posts content that breaks the For You feed standards. In its newsroom post, TikTok said it will notify creators when their accounts are restricted this way, and that they can appeal. Check your notifications and any status messages in the app.

2. Are your captions, audio and tags clear?

Because video information is one of the three categories TikTok lists, vague or missing captions and tags give the system less to work with. Say what the video is about, in plain words, in the caption and on screen.

3. Did the opening hold people?

TikTok lists user interactions, including watching, liking, sharing and commenting, as signals. If viewers swipe away at once, nothing else matters. Open on the payoff or the question, not on a logo or a slow lead-in. Check your video analytics to see where people leave. Our TikTok platform guide covers the signals in more detail.

4. Is important text covered by the interface?

Captions, buttons and the username overlap parts of the screen. Use the TikTok safe zone checker to confirm your text sits in the visible area.

5. Are you posting consistently?

Posting frequency is not among the factors TikTok lists, but regular posting gives you more chances for a video to land, and more data on what your audience reacts to. Review which videos did well and repeat the format. A scheduler helps keep the rhythm, and posting through an approved scheduler does not reduce reach, as we explain in does scheduling hurt your reach.

6. Did you repost something from elsewhere?

Reused clips and watermarked videos fall under the originality rules above. Export the original file without another app's watermark.

What not to do

  • Do not buy views or engagement. TikTok's Creator Rewards terms let it exclude views it would not be fair to treat as qualified, and fake engagement does not tell the system anything real about your video.

FAQ

Why is my TikTok stuck at 0 views?

A new video can show very low numbers for a while. If it stays at 0 or a handful of views, check whether it is eligible for the For You feed, check the account for any restriction notice, and look at your notifications. TikTok does not publish a timeline.

Does follower count affect TikTok views?

TikTok says neither follower count nor previous high-performing videos are direct factors in recommendations.

Can TikTok limit my reach?

Yes. TikTok says content that does not meet its For You feed standards is not recommended in the feed, and accounts that repeatedly break them can be made temporarily ineligible for recommendation. TikTok says it notifies creators and lets them appeal.

Does scheduling TikTok videos hurt views?

No evidence says so. See our research summary on scheduling and reach. posterly can queue TikTok videos and photo slideshows through the TikTok scheduler.
