What Is Engagement Rate?
Engagement rate measures how actively your audience interacts with your content relative to your audience size or reach. It's one of the most important metrics for evaluating social media performance, and brands use it to assess influencer partnerships and content strategy.
How Is It Calculated?
The formula varies by platform:
- Instagram: (Likes + Comments) / Followers x 100
- TikTok: (Likes + Comments + Shares) / Views x 100
- YouTube: (Likes + Comments) / Views x 100
- LinkedIn: (Reactions + Comments + Reposts) / Impressions x 100
- Facebook: (Reactions + Comments + Shares) / Followers x 100
- X/Twitter: (Likes + Reposts + Replies) / Impressions x 100
What Is a Good Engagement Rate?
- Below 1% — Low engagement. Consider adjusting your content strategy.
- 1% – 3% — Average. Typical for most accounts.
- 3% – 6% — Good. Your content resonates well with your audience.
- Above 6% — Excellent. Outstanding audience connection.
Note that engagement rates tend to decrease as follower counts grow. An account with 1,000 followers will typically have a higher engagement rate than one with 1,000,000 followers.
